BE + Shadow Copy= Troubles

Hello, we`ve got problem with our BE 10d.

Windows Event LOG:
Backup- Server1
AOFO: Initialization failure on: "\\Server1\Shadow?Copy?Components". Advanced Open File Option used: Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS).
Snapshot provider error (0xE0008524): Unable to initialize the snapshot because the Advanced Open File Option (AOFO) is not installed on the target computer. You must install this option, restart the computer, and then run the job again.
Check the Windows Event Viewer for details.

We don`t have AOFO licensed and installed because shadow copy components, as said in documentation can be backed up without AOFO.

Server1-bengine00.log most interesting part:

06/19/06 13:50:16 NDMP version 3 connection CONNECTED
06/19/06 13:50:16 Single logical volume snapshot is enabled for this job.
06/19/06 13:50:16 BESC: Parsing OS version info -
06/19/06 13:50:16 ndmpcSnapshotPrepare: adding selection string for device_name: \\Server1\Shadow?Copy?Components
06/19/06 13:50:16 ndmpcSnapshotPrepare2: selection string: "\\Server1\Shadow?Copy?Components\System?State\*.*",s,v0,t0,l0,n0,f0
06/19/06 13:50:17 ndmpcSnapshotPrepare2: Snap shot error. ErrorCode: -536836828 ErrorLevel: 2 Provider: 2

BE acts with privileges of Local Administartor on Server1.

How can we fix this errors?

Microsoft Software shadow copy provider and Volume shadow copy Service are running.
AOFO option isn`t installed and isn`t licensed.

AFAIK ShadowCopyComponents can be backed up without thit option.

Please, don`t close case iа it will be unanswered for two days.
Unfortunately, i can`t monitor this topic every day, but it`s very important question for us and our client.

Hello,

1. Please check whether the Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service(VSS) is started and running while the backup job is under progress.

2. Use VSSadmin command to check for writer errors. If there are some errors related to writers, please re-boot the server to reset the writer errors.

Note: the VSSadmin command needs to be run immediately after the backup job is complete(failed).

http://support.veritas.com/docs/261993

3. For test purposes, please use NTbackup and check if the VSS starts during the backup process.

4. For test purposes, please create a new backup job to backup only the resources for which the backup is failing and observe the results.

1. Microsoft Volume Shadow Copy Service(VSS) is started and running while the backup job is under progress.
2. No writer errors. And we`ve rebooted server 5 times during resolving of this trouble.
3. NTbackup do it job perfectly and VSS starts during the backup process with no problems.
4. The results are the same/.

Maybe we can open common CASE in your support?

Hello,

It seems to be an account related issue.

In my first post was remark that BESA acts under local Administrator account.
Now BESA have all privileges? that any account in Windows can have (even schema master :).

Please, explain me what thit log means:
06/19/06 13:50:17 ndmpcSnapshotPrepare2: Snap shot error. ErrorCode: -536836828 ErrorLevel: 2 Provider: 2

and what means this error number.
