BE v11d does not use full LTO3 capacity with low backup/ write rate

I got a Library TX24 with 2 HH Ultrium LTO3 drives.

Since last week the write rate during backups dropped from 3 GB/Min to 2 GB/Min.

This alone is not the biggest problem. With the performance drop also the used LTO3 capacity dropped to roughly 60 to 70% of the typical 391 GB. (I don't use any compression)

Now I made a test and started a backup with 900 GB of data. Normally a job for three tapes.

But this time it didn't fit. All media are shown as capacity fully used, but they got only 60 to 70% data on it. In the log file I can see that to all media data were written for 2 hours. After 2 hours the next media was used. If I calculate average writing time * 120 minutes it fits with the size of data on the tapes.

Does anybody know about a limitation there?

How does BE decide that a tape is full? OR is this status feedback coming from the LTO3 tape drive?

Thanks.

A tape is considered "full" when the heads detect the end-of-tape marker
