BE12 + Win 2008 server = huge System State backup?

All of my servers that gets backed with BE 12 (not 12.5) are either Windows 2003 or 2000 and the System State backup on these are miminal like 1.5-2GB in size but I've recently added a Windows 2008 server to BE 12 and it's System State backup is like 8-9GB in size and it takes 1.5-2hrs to complete.

Is this normal for 2008 server or is there some adjustment or configuration changes I need to make?

Thanks in advance.

This is absolutely normal. The size of system state in freshly installed server 2008 is around 6Gb. If more data exists on your server the size will definately reach 8-9Gb or it may even increase depending on the data on your server.

The backup time as you have mentioned is 1.5-2hrs for 8-9Gb data is much more. Try to take backups during non-working hours.

Also note that an Exchange install (including Small Business Server) will make System State backups much, much larger.
