BE2010R3 with Agent for VMware Virtual Infrastructure (AVVI).

We have two sites A and B. All the vmware ESXi servers are splited in to both the sites and managed by VCentre servers on both side. Backup exec media server is running on site B. We are planned to implement AVVI to take backup for both sites VMs. Media server has connected to our SAN switch in site B hence SAN transpport based VM backup is ok for site B. Is there any way that we can backup the same method on site A too? or any suggestion to take backup on site A?

Hi there,

Not sure what CASO offers here at all. You have 1 device on Site A, and 2 sites in total (Site A and Site B). If you're doing SAN transport across an extended SAN with 1 media server, you're wasting your money as the full functionality of CASO will never be realised (unless you were doing a dedupe backup on Site B to storage there, and intended pulling it across your WAN.

So don't buy CASO.

Why not put down a media server on Site A and back it up locally there? Your WAN link has to be very strong in order to do dedupe. Running an INCR/DIFF backup across a WAN might also lead to serious performance issues as well.

So, my suggestion is as follows: Put down a media server at Site A, license it as per Site B, and then back up to disk, or a tape drive.

If you have no requirements to duplicate between sites, then it's not necessary. CASO, again in this case, is overkill for 2 servers. You can manage both from the BE Remote COnsole that you can install for free on your workstation, or simply log onto the media server in Site A and choose to connect to the media server in Site B from within BE.
