Backing up compressed files

I'm trying to increase my backup speeds on compressed cad files.

I'm currently only seeing 155 mb/ min on average while the non cad files backup at around 900 mb/min.

What can I do?

There is very little you can do. Compression is turned on or off, you cannot select which files or directories to compress. What might make a differance is if you use sofware or hardware compression, either way trying to compress an compressed file wil not work and because this will be tried it might take some more time to get those files onto the backup tape.

If your diskspace allows it you could try to use uncompressed cad files and see if this makes a differance in backup time.

Hello,

Please see the technote below:

Title:

Reasons why the data throughput rate can be slower than the theoretical maximum when backing up to tape media

Have you tried a run without any compression?

Part of the problem could be that BackupExec is spinning it's wheels trying to compress data that is already compressed.

Also, is the CAD data local or remote?
