Backing up remote Exchange 2000 server

I changed from backing up locally on the server to a remote backup to another server. While making the change, I went to great lengths to ensure I reproduced the backup selections and settings on the new backup server. However, I am getting errors backing some .stf files that I did not get backing up locally on the Exchange server. Do I need to backup these files? Why did I not get errors on the local backup?

Thanks for your help!

You need to be more specific

What files are now giving you errors?

C:\Program Files\Exchsrvr\MDBDATA\*.STF

Another difference is the backup server I am now using is BE 9.0 whereas the Exchange server had been upgraded to 9.1.

Didi you have AOFO serials on the old media server and not on the new one.

As long as Exchange is running, you will not be able to grab that file with a flatfle backup

(I would have thought that the build in excludes would have skipped that file anyway

v9.1 is a free upgrade, so go ahead and try.

That could be it. I'll check and see.

I know. Just didn't want to add another variable in the change until I was sure the backup job runs successfully.

Thanks!

AOFO was not installed on the Exchange server. Do I need to backup these files for restoration or disaster recovery?

Hi Tim,

We would like to know about your environment in order to suggest you while configuring this backup !

Please describe it in detail !

What you can try out is taking backup but excluding these *.stf files now.
For this click on : Backup>Source>Selections>Advanced>under Type>Exclude

Thank you.

NOTE : If we do not receive your intimation within two business days, this post would be marked ‘assumed answered’ and would be moved to ‘answered questions’ pool.
