Backup Exec 12.5 failing constantly

cliquezach
Level 2

Hello. I am running Backup Exec 12.5 on Windows Server 2008 with SP2.

The backups fail every day. Most of the time the error code is 80042316, E000FEDF, 80042306, E00FE36, E0008821, E00084AF AND E000E020.

It will fail on Daily Diff and Weekly Full.

I have tried the fixes from https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/forums/125-backup-exec-windows-2008-server-hangs-systemstate and changed some things on the VSS writers and what not.

Any help would be awesome. I am not brand new with Backup Exec but I do not know it perfectly, so solutions may have to be pretty detailed.

Thank you to anyone that helps for the time you put in on it.

Hi,

Your issue is that BE 12.5 is not supported to run on Win2K8 R2 as a media server. Check the SCL below:

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH62301

As such, your solution is unsupported. You need to move to at least BE 2010 R3 with SP2 (or BE 2012...check out the changes first!!!) in order to resolve your issues.

Thanks!

Not running it on R2. Just Server 2008 with SP2.

It used to run decently well, but now it fails.

I should get my eyes checked!

Those are multiple errors that you're having which is going to make troubleshooting more difficult.

Have you checked these links below;

Is your media server fully patched with the latest patch for BE 12.5 and any subsequent patches, and have you push-installed these to your remote servers?

Thanks!

Backup Exec 12.5 says that all updates are good, via LiveUpdate. Is this something I have to run myself, or would LiveUpdate have installed all of the updates? I could not find anywhere to look to see what updates have and have not been already completed.

Backup failed again today with error code E000FEDF

Error category : Resource Errors
Error : e000fedf - A failure occurred reading an object.

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-65247

It says that there is a corrupt file in there somwhere. How do I find and repair this file?

Hi,

Increase the level of logging in your job from the Tools --> Options menu. Do this for the next run only, and it should log where the error is.

Thanks!
