Hello,
We need an solution for symantec backup Exec 2010 SP1 rev 2896 (64-bit) on SBS 2008
The device is in use:
Job status hangs on: Ready; No idle devices are available
It is a DAT160 USB internal Tape drive.
- Restarting backup exec services does not help
- The tapedrive is correctly listed in the Windows hardware manager
- There are no other backuptools installed.
- HP library and tape tools says: the drive is okay.
- If I flash the firmware on the tapedrive the backup run one time okay...
Second time:
Backup Exec Alert: Device Error
(Server: "servername") The drive hardware is offline.
I hope anyone can help me!

I would suggest that you upgrade to BE 2010 R3 which is the latest version. Your existing licence keys will work. You can download BE 2010 R3 from either the fileconnect site or www.backupexec.com. After your upgrade, do not forget to run LiveUpdate a couple of time to update it to SP1 and the latest hotfixes.
Sometimes a re-start of the media server or all the BE services may help in your situation.

Do you see any hardware related events in the Windows Event Viewer.?
Disable and Delete the tape drive from BE console and then restart all the BE services.

Thankyou for your answer, the basic maintenance (1 year) is expired for this customer. Can I use the new version with expired subscription?

Sure. Your licence keys are still valid for R3.

Thank you for yous anser,
I have found an article of symantec for 2 weeks ago and try that solution: Disable and Delete the tape drive from BE console and then restart all the BE services
Also I have delete the drive in windows and reseat the drive. The backup was running 3 days okay, and after thad is was failed again.
