Hi,
we plan to buy the Symantec Backup Exec Capacity Edition for 5 TB of physical Server-Data. Now we have two questions
1) Will the Capacitiy Edition include the dedupe-option? So that we are able to use features like OST/DDboost?
2) How are B2D-backuped data copied to tape? Dehydrated or will the data be transferred compressed/deduplicated like on disk? I need an answer for that to size the tapes amount.
Thank you all in advance.

Hi Georg,
The deduplication option is included in the capacity licensing model. In backup Exec, everything is included in that licensing model.

Hi,
1. That should be front-end data from what I remember. So you can backup 5TB of server data.
2. Data from a dedupe store is rehydrated when duplicating to tape. So it will duplicate what amounts to 5TB of data to tape. Factor this extra time to rehydrate backups in.
Thanks!

Hi,
thanks for the fast and adequate reply. Just to clarify 1) a bit more:
The question was if the dedupe-option is included within the Capacity-License-model
Thanks.

Thank god i have wrote this post to clarify that. After a few years working with this product peripher i have heard they want to "streamline" the license model with the capacity edition and even than, the customer was not able to find THAT info within licensing guide .....lol
All customers are reading the Feature tab here http://www.symantec.com/backup-exec-capacity-edition/
or they read simple googled and useless thinks like https://www-secure.symantec.com/connect/sites/default/files/Backup%20Exec%202014_Deduplication%20Option_White%20Paper.pdf (just try ctrl + f and search capacity to find if it is included)
Thank you very much.

Ah ok. Thank you!

...where does it state this? It seems as if it is an add-on, and not clearly stated on the site otherwise.
Thanks!
