Backup Exec Device & Media Server fails to start

The-ISS
Level 2

Hi.

I hav a HP ML350 G6 running Windows 2008 SP2 64bit and Backup Exec 12.5 sp4. This setup has been running fine for almost 2 years until a few days ago the Device & Media Service failed with the following error:

Faulting application pvlsvr.exe, version 12.5.2213.185, time stamp 0x4d5ab1af, faulting module pvlsvr.exe, version 12.5.2213.185, time stamp 0x4d5ab1af, exception code 0xc0000409, fault offset 0x0000000000190ab9, process id 0x140c, application start time 0x01cdab236232f1c7.

I have tried all kinds of solutions but none have fixed the problem.

When I start the service I get ca. 40 lines in the Alert window in the BE Administrator stating that HP System Management Homepage Win32 service started successfully.

Here is the debug log when I start the service:

Any idea what might be the problem?

Hello,

Check if there is any tape stuck in the drive. If so, remove the tape.

Try again.

Check the Even Viewer for Application events and reply the event.

Hi.

There is no tape in the drive. I ran a test on the drive earlier today using IBM tape diagnostics. All tests passed.

Application Log Error:

Faulting application pvlsvr.exe, version 12.5.2213.185, time stamp 0x4d5ab1af, faulting module pvlsvr.exe, version 12.5.2213.185, time stamp 0x4d5ab1af, exception code 0xc0000409, fault offset 0x0000000000190ab9, process id 0xb8c, application start time 0x01cdab299259c34f.

The error appears first ca. 3 minutes after the server lost network connectivity few days ago.

Found this warning from SQL Browser:

The configuration of the AdminConnection\TCP protocol in the SQL instance BKUPEXEC is not valid.

Regards, Ingi.
