How can I get BE to backup to any media inserted?

All I want to do is buy a new tape, stick it in and it works!

BE seems to refuse to backup to blank media!

Note: Arcserve does!

Hi,

I don't have any experience with Arcserve but in BE you need to give your tape a name so BE knows the tape exists. Once you have done this BE will recognize the tape when you insert it.

Kind regards

I have no problem when inserting a new blank tape and it backing up to it. What is your Media Overwrite Protection set to?
From Options click the Media Management tab and set it to None and remove the check from the "Prompt before overwriting allocated or imported media"

Hello,

Device management in Backup Exec simplifies how you organize and allocate the storage devices recognized by Backup Exec,

Note: Backup Exec detects the device onlyif it i sdetected by operating system.

When Backup Exec is installed, all storage devices connected to the media server are
automatically recognized as either robotic libraries or stand-alone drives.
Note Support for a single robotic library drive is included with Backup Exec for Windows
Servers. Licenses for additional robotic library drives are available for purchase.

If the device is not getting detected by backup Exec follow the steps given below.
1.Check if the device is comaptible with Backup Exec in the hardware compatibility list.

--Backup Exec 9.x for Windows Servers Standalone Drives Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/271382.htm

--Backup Exec 9.x for Windows Servers Robotic Library Hardware Compatibility List (HCL) (includes tested drives) http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/271383.htm

2.If it is comaptible the use latest veritas device drivers.

VERITAS Backup Exec (tm) 9.1 - Device Driver Installer (20050115) - Includes Tape Driver Release (20041231) and Robotic Library Release (45) (Intel Only) http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/273853.htm
