Backup jobs Failing with V-79-57344-33928 - Access is denied.

caIT21

We are running a full copy backup and I've yet to see this backup job be completed. We run this about once every two weeks. It always fails with the same error which is

0xe0008488 - Access is denied.

Final error category: Security Errors

V-79-57344-33928 - Access is denied.

I've tried recreating the job, creating a new user, changing the permission of the files, and still nothing works. We have other jobs that run and complete just fine but those backup our Windows virtual Machines. This specific job is meant to back up our esx server. We are running a VMware ESX 4.0.0 server and Symantec Backup Exec 2010. Any and all help and suggestions would get greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Check your logincredetials in BE and privileges on ESX.

It seems you are backing up an ESX server using Remote agent. This will lead to above exceptions as the files are in use and open.

Use Agent for VMware Virtual Infrastructure (AVVI) to backup ESX servers. This is a separately licensed option.

My login credentials succeed without a problem when I test them in BE and I have all necessary privileges for esx for that login that i am using.

Yes that is correct we are utilizing a remote agent. The funny thing is, this job has succeeded in the past. However, when we added another virtual machine it not longer continue to succeed. This is the only error I've ever received.

It seems the files getting skipped are related to Virtual machines which are running at the time of backup (since it shows .vswp files).

If the machines are running the files will be in use and in that case the remote agent based backup won't be able to backup these files.

It is recomended to backup VMware virtual machines using Backup Exec VMware Virtual Infrastructure (AVVI).
