I have migrated from MS Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2003. Exchange 2003 is installed on a new server.
Veritas Backup Exec is installed on a separate server.
When I try to backup the Exchange Information Store (not just when making backups of the mailboxes !!!) using the remote agent for Exchange, the Exchange server quickly stops responding. All network connections are lost, however it does responds to pings. The only way to resolve this situation is by performing a 'hard-reset' of the Exchange server.
The same problems occur when trying to backup the Information Store to a backup file, using Windows Backup on the Exchange server itself.
The problem does not occur when making a files-only backup of the server, either by Backup Exec of Windows Backup.
