I need to remove some old data from my backup to disk SAN. I remember something about you cannot just go in and delete those files. What can I do, m,y backup to tape is failing because there is little room left on my SAN.
Thanks

DLM will take care of this. Don't delete them manually.

Hi Cathy,
You need to make sure that the Append/OPP settings are correct on the media set/s you use. If they aren't, data backup files aren't returned to a scratch set.
Thanks!

Hey there Craig...
These are not files from a tape drive but from a SANs disk space. I do not have a Media Set for that I do not think. But it says to keep for 5 days. I need to remove two sets of full backups from the SAN. It is the in the BEData folder and there are some IMGnnnnnnn folders for the Virtuals and B2Dnnnnnnnbkf files.
There is a Changer.cfg, Folder.cfg and a vhsig-ld1.DR files. I need to remove the DR file since I do not backup that server any longer. (was using it as a test server to get the backups going).
Help :)
Thaks

Hi Cathy,
Doesn't matter...B2Ds would also be associated to a media set.

Craig:
I looked at the HSIG Backup to Disk details. Looking at the backup sets.. Can I delete from there?? There are several that expired 5-12 and some that will be expiring today. Could I just delete those??

Craig:
As always.. you are right there. So greatly appreciate your solutions... FYI though, the last weblink does not work and I am logged into the Symantec system.

On the Storage tab, you can right-click on backup sets that you think should be purged by DLM, but isn't, and then delete them. If there are any backup sets that are dependent on these backup sets, you would be prompted to delete them as well. In BE 2012, when you delete a backup set from the Storage tab, the physical files are also deleted from the disk storage.

Thanks much. That is what I did after figuring out why. I am new at this so I have a bit of a learning curve to get around.
Thanks for your suggestion.
