Backup-to-disk USB Disk goes offline

My firm is currently evaluating BackupExec 10d.
We are running on Win 2K server sp4. Jobs that run on backup-to-disk USB drive fail because the USB disk goes offline, even though the disk is online. There is no event error in the event viewer other than the BackupExec alert that the disk has gone offline. This is not a hardware error, the disk and server are working properly.

I have noticed that this is a common problem in BackupExec.

Please note:
- I am using a fixed USB disk. No disk rotation.
- No event errors show up in event viewer other than the alert from backup exec
- No other process or job uses the USB disk and the failure seems to happen each time a job is run.

We would like to know whether you have created a removable backup to disk folder.
