BackupExecTapeDeviceDriverInstall_277477.exe Fails

I upgraded our Backup Exec server to build 5520. When I tried to run the Tape Device Driver Install, it failed with a dialog box that says:

"The wizard was interrupted before VERITAS Windows NT and Windows 2000 Device Drivers could be completely installed.

Your system has not been modified. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."

I have run setup several times, with no success. I did not cancel or interrupt the program at any time.

In the event log, it says:

Event Type:Information
Event Source:MsiInstaller
Event Category:None
Event ID:11729
Date:8/11/2005
Time:8:57:32 PM
User:POWIS\admin
Computer:ENGSERVER
Description:
Product: VERITAS Device Driver Install -- Configuration failed.
Data:
0000: 7b 39 34 38 35 35 33 34 {9485534
0008: 31 2d 33 44 37 37 2d 34 1-3D77-4
0010: 43 38 39 2d 38 42 44 34 C89-8BD4
0018: 2d 41 35 41 39 37 43 33 -A5A97C3
0020: 38 32 39 38 46 7d 8298F}

I then tried removing the old VERITAS Device Driver Install using the Control Panel Add/Remove Programs, but this fails with a dialog box that says:

"Fatal error during installation."

I then tried re-installing build 5520, but it fails with a doalog box that says:

"You must reboot this system tocomplete a previous installation of Backup Exec. After rebooting, run the setup program to continue with the installation."

How can I remove the old, damaged Device Driver Install and re-install the latest build?

I found that document over the weekend and followed the procedure. It did not solve my problem.

When I restart the computer, I get a pop up dialog box that says:

"Please insert the floppy disk labeled "Sonydds" into drive A: and then click OK.

You can also click OK if you want files to be copied from an alternate location, such as a network server or a compact disk."

If I click OK, a windows Explorer comes up in C:\WINNT\System32 with Sonydds.sys displayed.

If I click on Sonydds.sys and click on OK, the window disappears.

When I try to run BackupExecTapeDeviceDriverInstall_277477.exe again, it fails in the same way as before.

What else can I try? Do you know what files are needed and where they are located?

I ran the "repair" install as suggested in the first document. After it finished, I ran the device driver install again and it failed in the same way as before.

The device driver install does not write anythng in bkupinst.log.

The repair install wrote 169kb into the log. Here is an excerpt from the log with two error messages:
