Best Way to Install New Tape Drive

John_Smith_10

Hello all:

So we have a new Sony AIT-2 Turbo drive that will become our main backup drive, but we would like to keep our Quantum DLT8000 in operation so that we can use it to back up noncritical data on a SNAP server. Will there be any conflicts in having both tapes online at the same time? Does it matter which one is first in the SCSI chain? Will having both cause the Sony to go slower than it should? Should I use the Veritas drivers?

Really I would just like to have any feedback and suggestions on the best way to install the second device.

Thanks,

- John -

Should be no problem at all. You can either Daisy Chain the devices, or if it really worries you, add a dedicated controller for the Turbo Drive

Either way, the only changes you wil need to make to BackupExec, aside from running the Hardware Wizard is to modifiy existing jobs to point to the new drive.

Another reason to keep the old drive, especially if you use Hardware Compression, is so that you can restore any Archive Tapes you may be holding onto.

Thanks for the tips I will give it a go and see how it turns out.

BTW: Would this cable here (http://www.adaptecstore.com/index.cfm?category=285&subcategory=952&productid=1838500) be able to connect two devices in a daisy chain? We have a 1 meter cable right now but need to purchase another cable to connect the two SCSI devices together.

Looks like it ought to work fine, but personally, I think I'd look for something a little shorter than 2Meters if the drives will be sitting on top of each other or near each other.

Backup Exec media server will connect an unlimited number of individual "stand alone" backup drives, physical or virtual, optical, or one single backup drive within one physical or virtual autoloader, library, robotic library or robotic media changer.

kindly refer the following HCL and check for the autoloader and its compatibility with Backup Exec software.

You can cross-check the HCL from the link given below:

http://support.veritas.com/dsl/verselect_ddProduct_BEWNT_prod1_NT9.htm

If the device is present in our HCL, kindly refer the following steps.

Kindly download latest device drivers. We recommend you upgrade to initially to 9.1 and then install the following device drivers.
