Hi,
i am running Backup Exec 15 Vray Edition.
My Hypervisor is Windows Server 2012 R2.
Can i backup the Symantec Messaging Gateway virtual machine - its a linux VM?
When I try to add it as a server in Backup Exec 15 i get the following message:
The server was unable to complete the requested task
possible cause:
A communication failure occured when attempting to connect to this server.....
Is this supported?
I am using version 10.6.0-5 of the Symantec Messaging Gateway
Many Thanks
Jack

When you say, "add", are you adding the VM to the BE console? If so, you should not be doing so. You should just select it from under the VM host.
You should check with Symantec as to what the OS of the VM and then whether the BE remote agent can be installed in it. If it can, then install the BE remote agent in the VM.

Alternatively, use this KB article to backup SMG's data - https://support.symantec.com/en_US/article.TECH156284.html
You can then use Backup Exec to backup these sets.
