Can Not Stop beremote

Windows 2000 sever build 4454 back hangs at "retension pre-processing" services say stopped however beremote service is still running can not be stopped from task manager 'Access Denied' or from command line 'process could not be killed' and 'bestop' also failed to stop process.

Any suggestions? This is an ongoing problem and it is a real pain having to boot a production server once a week.

- Is it a local backup or a remote backup?

- Are you backing up any databases?

- Are you backing up on tape?
