Cannot back up an Equallogic CIFS share to tape

Gutterpunk

We currently have a setup that consists of an 2x Equallogic PS6500E with 2x FS7500 Nas heads. We have a CIFS share created on the storage which is used for teams to read and write files to. In addition we have a Windows 2008 svr which is used to monitor the storage and also has Backup exec loaded onto it. This has a mapped drive to the EQ CIFS share.

What we need to do is backup the mapped CIFS share to a tape drive.

Unfortunately we cannot find any way of doing this and we have NDMP loaded but still no good. Can anyone give me steps on how this can be achieved please.

Thanks

You cannot backup a mapped drive form a drive letter, you have to define a user defined selection of a UNC path (and enable selection os user shares as above)

The reason a mapped letter cannot be used is that it is linked to a logged in profile and Backup Exec is designed to operate at a service level with no console user logged in

Did you enable (check) the option "Enable Selection of user shares" ?

Yes all enabled.

Thanks for the reply. Sadly it has taken three different levels of Symantec support to try and get an answer for me (unsuccessfully) ... and you have provided an answer in a couple of lines. Many thanks.
