Just now checked back for an answer.
I do not plan to try you workaround.
When I first asked the question, I had just installed the new program. So since no jobs had ran yet, there was no Catalog directory.
I just now went in and stoped the services, moved the catalogs from the old to the new and then started the services. I now have my catalog history.
The catalog was the inportant part for me. The rest would be nice, but I am not going to install old stuff to workaround it now that everything is working.
Thanks
