Data being read from the media is inconsistent

I have a backup that spans two 50GB AIT tapes. Here is my setup:

BE for WS 10.0 Rev 5484
Win Server 2003
Backing up a mix of MS Server 2000 and 2003
Sony SDX-500C Dual tape drive

The backup completes and the verify seems to complete, but the job ends with the error:

Job ended: Thursday, September 22, 2005 at 6:19:21 AM
Completed status: Failed
Final error: 0xe00084ca - The data being read from the media is inconsistent.
Final error category: Backup Media Errors

For additional information regarding this error refer to link V-79-57344-33994

Symantec KB says this is caused by an abrupt quit of the tape drive, such as a power outage or other failure. But, of course, this is not happening here. I have seached the KB and found no solution relevant to my problem. I do not have auto cancellation enabled (I believe ver. 10 removed that option for backups). I recently installed 10.0 and I used the Veritas drivers for my tape drive.

Any ideas? My next thought is to install updated Sony drivers, but I wanted to check in here first.

TIA.

Hi,

-- Sony SDX-500C tape drive is listed in BE 10.0 HCL as tested, hence we suggest you to install latest Veritas drivers.
Please upgrade to first revision 5520 and install latest Veritas drivers:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/278408.htm

-- Clean the drive with cleaning tape. Try using different tape (new tape). Clean the tape as per the manufacturer's procedure.

- Download and install latest firmware from backup device manufacturer's web site.

- Stop "Removable storage" service and change startup type to manual.
