Device could not be backed up

Error : Device could not be backed up because an error occurred while connecting to the Remote Agent for Windows Servers.

The remote agent service is very unstable. It terminates unexpectedly causing the backup job to fail. I have tried to look for patterns in the event log but have not found any. I have also checked to make sure the service is started before starting the backup but it stops somewhere in the bakcup process.

Please help !!!

Hello,

This problem may occur, if there is a communication problem between Backup Exec and Remote Agent component.

To resolve this issue, re-install Remote Agent on Backup Exec Server using following procedure:

1.) On the Backup Exec server, display the command prompt window.

2.) Go to the \Program Files\VERITAS\Backup Exec\RANT Remote Agent installation directory.

3.) Type setup.exe /RANT32: -s

The -s parameter is used to run the operation in the silent mode.

: After executing this command, the command prompt will be returned back, but the installation will run as a background process. To ensure that the installation has been completed successfully, verify whether the Remote Agent for Windows Server service is running in the Services applet.

Thanks,

I have reinstalled the agent but it did not help much. All the nightly backups are failing with the error message stated above.

If I check the Remote Agent service once the backup fails, it is stopped !! I have to restart it manually before the next backup which, as stated earlier, is unsuccessfull. This is like a never ending loop.

Please let me know how to ensure that the service is more stable.
Thanks again for your help !!
