Does BackupExec 11D work with SQL 2008 Express?

I'm wondering if I can install an Express version of SQL (2005 or 2008) as the database backbone for BackupExec; is this possible, or do I need Standard or above?

Just to correct the last post, BE 12.5 does support SQL 2008 as databsae repository. BE 12.5 was released primarily keeping SQL 2008 in mind, so it would not be an issue with BE 12.5. But, with 11d, it is not supported to host the database on SQL 2008. You may have to continue with SQL 2005 database unless you plan to upgrade to BE 12.5.

The SCL only mentions SQL Express 2005 as supported:

ftp://exftpp.symantec.com/pub/support/products/Backup_Exec_for_WindowsNT/286600.pdf  (last page)

perhaps somebody tried it with 2008, so it might work, but still is not supported.

best regards

Dominik

 Hi,

I agree with DominikG. The supported DB is SQL Express 2005 but I have not tried it in 2008.
Admin guide and Symantec says that you can use either the SQL express 2005 or use an instanse of 2000 or 2005 SQL Server.
I would suggest you to upgrade to 12.5 anyway, but keep in mind that neither 12.5 support 2008 internal DB (again 2005 express or 2000/2005 instances)

Hope that helps,
Nikos
