I have a Quantum Scalar 50 with an LTO3 (400/800gb) drive. My monthly backup is usually 1.6TB and fits on 3 tapes.
Recently, I decided to change the backup to disk-to-disk and then manually ran duplicate to tape. The disk-to-disk job runs fine and I see 9 .BKF files that total 900gb. (The Backup-to-Disk Properties is configured for "100GB Maximum size for backup-to-disk files", compression is Hardware [if availble, otherwise none]). The problem is the duplicate job is using up 6 tapes. Each tape isn't filled before a new one starts. The duplicate job is configured for "Append to media, overwrite if no appendable media is available". I don't understand this wasteful behavior and I see no reason why it would not fill the entire tape.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated!
