Event Log Errors

Ken_Kallin
Level 2
Have been receiving several errors in the application event log that happen 4 times a day at the exact time each day.

The error:

Access to catalog file C:\veritas86\backupexec\Catalogs\{D94806BB-9BEB-4E00-AB20-E0C17633F66A}.U01 failed.
Reason: There is not enough space on the disk.
e:\be\mikonos\4691r\becat\server\dll\..\catmedia.cpp(1983)

It's does not seem to be affecting the backup. And does not happen while the backup is running.

Any insight into the error message would be appreciated.

The obvious question is, do you have enough space on the drive?

If that's not the problem, try a chkdsk maybe.

Hello,

The Catalog error that you are getting is due to lack of space on the C:\ drive.

You will have to move the catalog files to another drive for resolution of this error.

For moving the catalog refer the following procedure:
1. Open Backup Exec and select Tools > Options from the drop-down menu.

2. Select the Catalog tab
3. In the Catalog Drive drop-down box, select the drive to move the catalogs to.
4. The catalog path may either remain at the default setting or be changed as needed. If the target folder does not already exist, it will be created
5. Go to Control Panel > Services and stop all Backup Exec services.
6. Browse to the original location of the catalogs and copy all of the files that end with a .UO1 extension
7. Paste the .UO1 files into the new catalogs folder
8. Reboot the computer.
9. Open Backup Exec and confirm that the restore selections are displayed.
10. The catalogs have now been moved successfully. New catalogs will automatically be written to the new location.

Thanks,

We're using a Rev Drive. I noticed in the catalog options there is the option to:

Use Storage Media Based Catalogs.

Is that a possible solution with using rev drive and not tape?

Hi,

Install BE v9.1 Service Pack 2:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/275247.htm

If this does not help, refer the following:
If the drive where catalogs are stored has enough of free space, then there might be some corrupt catalog files present in the catalog folder. We suggest you to follow these steps
Stop the Backup Exec Services.
Rename the catalog folder to some other name. (default is C:\Program Files\Veritas\Backup Exec\NT\Catalogs).
Create a new "Catalogs" folder
Try to start the Backup Exec services .
Note: After renaming the "Catalogs" folder, all the catalog information will be lost. You will have to either recatalog or do the following.

If the issue does not appear, do the following:
1. Stop ALL Backup Exec services
2. Copy ONLY the files ending with .U01 from the original Catalogs folder to the new Catalogs folder, one-by-one
3. Start ALL Backup Exec services

Additionally for managing disk space used by catalogs, you can remove or truncate the unused catalogs after specified period of days. To do that settings you can refer the document given below,
