Hey all,
I have a tape library (HP Storageworks MSL4048) and within it I have 4 tape drives.
To view the status, operations and configuration, I simply go to an internal web address through a browser and reach something called HP Command View MSL.
In Command View, I have a firmware upgrade option for tapes with a browse button.
After researching my tape drive model, I found the download link on HPs site:
The problem is that its asking me to select an OS???
What do I do here? I am using the web console to perform the upgrade and as far as I know it doesnt run on any OS.......or does it?
I never set this up originally so I have no idea how this works? Is command view installed on an OS or can one simply navigate to the management IP of the device as I am doing?
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

...no need to post in the HP forums, I can hgelp you.
Download HP Library and Tape Tools. You can do the firmware upgrade from there. This is done seamlessly, just download the version for the OS of your media server...
Thanks!

Cheers Craig.
Ive downloaded the pack for Server 2008R2.
Do I simply hit install on the back up exec server? Or must I do something prior to this? Like backing up anything or backing up the settings associated currently?
Once installed, where do I go from there?
Thanks,

...nope, just install it. Once done, open up LTT, and there should be a section in there to click on which will automatically download the firmware for your device. Once done, apply the firmware. It normally takes about 15-20 minutes to do so. Restart the BE services and reapply the Symantec drivers (something I always did to be safe).
Thanks!

Does installing this also upgrade the frmware to the library as well as the tape drives? Or does it just do the FW for the tape drive?

You can use the LT&T tool to update the firmware of both the tape library and the tape drive, but they are considered as separate devices so the firmware for each device is different.

Chaps,
I downloaded the latest version of HP LTT and when I run it, I see the attached
All I can see is VMWare disks.

BE maintains a lock on the drive and robotics...you need to stop the BE services and run the discovery task again.
Thanks!

How about other options on the left like Library and drives they show nothing?
There will be firmware tab to upgrade the firmware

...take a look at the image the OP posted...nothing shows up! If you've ever worked with HP LTT, it needs to see the devices. If not, then EVERY other tab is greyed out until it is fixed!
Thanks!

OK...try to remove the library completely from the VM (both Device Manager, BE and within the VM's settings in VMware), and delete the zones off the FC switches.
Redo it from zoning, through to presentation, through to loading the Symantec drivers etc. Once done, see if this fixes it.
If not, then it's an issue with your media server being a VM and you have to try replicate this with a physical environment. If not, Symantec will not assist you if you log a call with them.
Thanks!
