How to fill up the AIT library tapes

We have a Sony TSL-SA500C AIT3 Autoloader. It's identified by BE 9.1 as a SPECTRA. It is set to append, but one job takes 1.5 tapes. The following day's job will not use remaining capacity on the second, partially used tape. So we end up wasting tape. Can someone provide me with step-by-step instructions to get BE to use the entire capacity of each tape?

How are your jobs defined?

Overwrite? or Append? or Append, else overwrite?

If they are defined as Overwrite, then this is to be expected

if they are defined as Append. else overwrite, they should continue where the previous job left off, if they media set they use is the same
