I am running BEXEC 12.5 SP1 and I have noticed entries in our web proxy log file for a download of the threatcon.zip file every 5 minutes from http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcenter
Is there a way to stop it from downloading these files? We do not use symantec for any protection products.
It has to do with Backup Exec, not the protection products. Read this snippet: "Symantec Backup Exec 12.5 also delivers innovative multiproduct integration with Symantec Enterprise Vault™, Symantec™ ThreatCon security alert system, and..."

Here's a similar description of Norton Ghost, which has a little more information: "Symantec ThreatCon integration— triggers incremental backups whenever ThreatCon reaches a specified threat level."
Within Backup Exec, there may be a way to configure (i.e., disable) the ThreatCon integration and stop those downloads. I'm having the same problem; I found hundreds of these entries, every few minutes, and now I'm here researching how to make it stop!
