IDR Restore Failing Due to Insufficient Drive Capacity

Hi,

I am trying to perform an IDR restore of a Windows 2003 Standard, non-DC Exchange 2003 server but it is failing very early on in the process.

After booting from the IDR Recovery CD and then pressing F2 for ASR as required, it comes up with the following error and halts: -

Setup was unable to restore the configuration of your system
because of the following error:

The capacity of the current system disk drive is
insufficient, and cannot be used to recover the
partitions on the original system disk.

The replacement hard disk drives must be at least as large
as the disks present on the original system.

This is a backup restore test run (thankfully) but the hardware has not changed and the backup was taken ~1 hour previous to the restore.

I am currently using Bexec v10 Rev 5520.

Any ideas?

Hello,

This is a Micorosft problem and the ASR detects the disk as not being similar and throws the error.

The workaround will be :
- Use a higher capacity disk.
- Perform manual disaster recovery.

Many thanks for your reply.

I managed to get it working by reinstalling the OS with the same partitions as previous and then re-running the IDR Recovery CD.

It appears to work okay if the partitions exist when the recovery is run (previously, I reinitialised the disks to simulate a true DR scenario).
