Information Store GRT backup over iSCSI with BE12.5 extremely slow

Hi all,

We currently on version 11d of BackupExec, and have been using it to backup our Exchange 2003 server.

We upgraded to verison 12 by installing it fresh on a new Dell 1950 server with Windows Server 2003/SP2.

Everything was running fine, but seeing as 12.5 has just been released, we thought we'd give that a go.

However...

When using Backup Exec 12.5 to backup our Exchange server we run in to the following problem.

When using BE12.5 AND when using GRT on our Information Store AND the backup destination is over an iSCSI connection, we get Job Rates of between 10 and 20MB/min

Backing up the Information store using GRT to any other destination that doesn't involve an iSCSI connection (including a Dell TL4000 Tape Unit) we get the usual transfer speeds of around 500 and 1000MB/min

Or even when we backup the local system drive of the Exchange server and the destination is a BackupToDisk folder over iSCSI connection we get reasonable transfer rates. It just seems to be the Information Store that causes problems.

We rolled back to version 12, and we have no issues whatsoever.

Performed an inplace upgrade back to 12.5, and the issue reoccured. We have re-created backup jobs from scratch using default settings also.

We have the 2.07 version of the Microsoft iSCSI initiator installed.

Any ideas?

FYI - the devices we are using to backup to that are over an iSCSI connection are - Dell MD3000, and an EMC CX3-10 SAN. Both have same speed issue.

Did you ever find a solution to the slow transfer rates with 12.5?  I too, am trying to find a solution.

FroggEye,
Please start a new thread, so you get the visibility you deserve to your request.

Also please list all the troubleshooting steps you've performed thus far.

I'm huge on iSCSI, and can offer some ideas based on what you've tried already.
