Installation of Shared Storage Option (SSO) Urgent

There is a Master Backup Server (Symantec Backup Exec ) installed on the server. The backup data will be stored on a networed storage which will be mapped shared drive on the master backup server. Do we require a Shared Storage Option installed on the master backup Server.

Hi Muzakkir,

The Shared Storage Option (SSO) would not apply for your scenario.  SSO is used only for sharing of devices between mulitple Backup Exec media servers within a fibre channel infrastructure, for example a fibre attached tape library.

In your scenario, you would simply create a Folder on your mapped drive (network storage) and define that Folder as a Backup-To-Disk device within Backup Exec (In the Devices area).  You would then direct your jobs to that new Backup-To-Disk device.

This functionality is supported within the base product, so additional special Option is required.
