Migrating BE

Phoenix195
Level 2

In a similar case we have Symantec BE 12.5 running on Windows 2003 R2 but in 32 bit.  We just purchased a new server with MS Server 2012 in 64 bit and Symantec Backup exec 2014.  What is the best way to move the cataloguesand migrate the data from the 32 bit server to the new 64 bit 2012 server?

You should upgrade BE 12.5 to BE 2014 on your existing server first.  Make sure you have a copy of the Data and Catalog directory under the BE installation directory before you start the upgrade.

You then migrate the newly-upgraded BE 2014 to your new server using the procedure in this document

http://www.symantec.com/docs/TECH129826

Note that you need a new set of licence keys for BE 2014 by either logging on to my.symantec.com or contacting the Symantec Licencing dept.  If you are on a current maintenance contract, the upgrade is free.
