Moving from BackupExec 10 to 10d on another server

Hi,

We're moving our current Backup Exec install to another server. What is the best way to move the jobs/history/media sets etc over the the new server? The old one is v10 and the new one is 10d. Because of the server the software is currently installed on, I don't want to do an upgrade to 10d.

thanks

Hello Richard,

Do you mean you already have installed 10d on a different server and just want to take the Job Properties etc to the new server?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You can go through the following Articles:
How to use BEMIG.EXE to manually migrate the job definitions, hardware profiles, and media rotation information from Backup Exec 8.x to Backup Exec 9.x or Backup Exec 10.x
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/263927.htm

How to uninstall and reinstall Backup Exec 10.x for Windows Servers and preserve user defined settings
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/280710.htm

NOTE: Please make sure you read the Articles first and note the 'please NOTE' Points before you proceed.

Yes, we've got one server running 10 in production and then a new server that I've loaded 10d onto. Ideally I would like to move the jobs/media sets, etc etc.

Is it possible to move the ADAMM database or will I need to do a catalog/inventory on the tapes before I use a tape for a restore?

thanks

Hello,

Refer to the following technote that describes the procedure for migrating Jobs, including backup, restore, and report jobs
-Policies, templates and selection lists
-Logon information
-Media sets ets...

How to copy media server configuration to a file and apply the copied media server configuration

Once again, Veritas/Symantec has ignored a specific request for information on how to migrate catalog files files from one server to another in v9/v10.

if it is not possible to move catalogs in a such a way that the new server recognizes them say so

if it is possible, tell us how.

What is so hard about that?

I did not get an answer about moving the catalogs to a new server. If it can't be done then just let me know please.

Went back and re-read your original post.

If you are moving an entire install from one server to another, see http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/280710.htm

Be sure to read the Do Not Use If near the top of the article. To migrate.upgrade, install v10 on the new server, migrate per the TechNote then upgrade to v10d

I had thought you were trying to move catalog files from one media server to another. There were relatively simple procedures published to do this in v7/v8 and in v9, but Veritas/Symantec has REFUSED to document how to do it in v10.
