Restore System State on Domain Controller

Hi,

In case anyone is trying to restore the system state on a DC, bear the following in mind...

I read this article http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH86323 which was useful, except it misses out a crucial step, which with hindsight is obvious, but took a day figure out...

Where Step 1 of this article is as follows:

"This basic Windows installation is necessary to provide Backup Exec with a target to which it can restore the system. The computer name, Windows directory and the file system (NTFS) must be the same as the previous Windows installation. This basic installation will later be overwritten by the backed up version, which will restore the system configuration, application settings, and security settings."

It needs to add a step that you must append the domain suffix of the previous DC. This is because the server needs to be in a workgroup for the non-authoritative restore to take place, meaning that it won't automatically assume the FQDN of the original DC.

This article explains this further:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH62182

This had to be done BEFORE deploying the agent to the server.

Any Symantec teccies reading this, please update the article, so that others don't have the frustration that I've had for the last 2 days!!!wink

Thanks
