Restoring server with failed system drive

John_Brigan

BE 10.0
Windows SBS 2003
The system drive failed and has been replaced.  Windows re-installed, and BE re-installed.
I put in a backup tape and attempt to catalog a tape and get this message:
Catalog 00005 -- The job failed with the following error: Invalid Physical Volume Library Media Identifier.

This happens with every tape.  Not good.

Any ideas on what's causing this?

Thanks.

Run an inventory on the tape, before running catalog. After inventory, check if the media label is detected propertly. If inventory does not run, check the errors and also event log messages.

Inventory runs.  But the media label is not correctly indentified after the job completes
It says "unknown label".
No errors in BE or Event Logs.
Everything; software, hardware, tapes... is the same as before.  Only Windows and BE has been re-installed.
What's causing this?

Was the backup done using same Backup Exec version, or different software? Please try a new tape and see if inventory does show the media label there. We are trying to see if this is an issue with tape or the device, as unless media lable is shown properly, catalog may not work.

Thanks

As I had said, all software and hardware is the same.  Same Backup Exec version.
The customer will have to buy some new tapes, as they don't have any extras on hand.
