Shadow copy files fill up our hard drive

We've noticed a huge chunk of space being used on our hard drive for shadow copy files generated by Veritas during shadow copy backup operations. The software does delete the oldest files when there's not enough room for more, but the fact that all that space is being used is causing other problems with the OS: services not restarting or failing, etc. Is there a way we can limit the size or aging of the shadow copy files, or do away with them altogether? The media server, similarly backed up, doesn't exhibit this stockpiling of shadow copy files. The server in question is a Windows/Exchange 2003 server with Veritas remote agent. Veritas is 9.1.

1. Refer to :Title: What is the intended use of the Open File Option and the Advanced Open File Option?
http://support.veritas.com/docs/263784
2. If the server being backed up has multiple volumes, break up the backup job into two parts with approximately half the volumes in one job and half the volumes in another job. This will allow the Advanced Open File Option cache file to be placed onto a different volume during the backup and also allow it to grow as needed.
To snap one volume at a time refer to:Title Enable Single Volume Snap: http://support.veritas.com/docs/264464
3. Alternatively you could change the location of the cache file. For this refer to: Title :How to change the default location of AOFO cache in Backup Exec 9.x for Windows Servers
http://support.veritas.com/docs/268450
4. refer also: Title: How does Advanced Open File Option calculate static volume size and location with Backup Exec 9.x?
http://support.veritas.com/docs/256762
You could use this to calculate the static volume size and change it using the AOFO wizard under tools>options.
