SharePoint 2003 Farm Backup - Index DB 1 Access Denied/Skipped

Hi,

I have the most annoying problem ever and I can't solve it no matter how hard I try. Got BackupExec 10.0.5520 SP-3 and the problem was still happening on SP-2. I have both the AOFO and SharePoint Agent backing up the SharePoint farm and all the database resources and files get backed up exept from the Search Application (Index DB 1).

The exact same problem has been fixed in BackupExec 10.1 here:
http://seer.support.veritas.com/docs/285983.htm

Please tell me that I don't have to upgrade. We've paid enough as it is for the SPS Agent! I get the message:

"Backup- http://SERVER\Index DB 1 (SERVER) V-79-57344-33928 - Access is denied.
Access denied to file \http://SERVER\Index DB 1 (SERVER)."

I've tried everything even the two links that the
V-79-57344-33928 error points to. I've also tried several different Domain Admin and Local Admin a/c's.

Help please! Thanks Michael

Have you tried unchecking the SharePoint selections, click OK, go back to selection, re-select them?

Also did you push out the remote agents to SharePoint and SQL Servers?

After I installed SP3, I had a similar problem.Message was edited by:

Thanks Sahap for the reply - I'm really struggling now to get this problem fixed. See below...

Apparently there are lots of users I see on various web sites reporting the same problem but no one seems to know what the fix is.

I've already tried what you suggested several times re: the check/un-check of the SPS selections but it didn't help. The SPS Agent is installed but not the SQL Agent (the SPS Agent covers that).

Yesterday I contacted Symantec Backup Exec telephone support and they say it's been resolved in 10.0d with SP-3. They gave me the link for the free upgrade with SP-3 so I did all the upgrades and re-install of the RAWS agents on all my servers. It's the same business - the error is still happening! What did you do to fix it?

I'm hoping more Backup Exec experts can jump in here to help me nail this. It seems as though the SharePoint Agent doesn't work 100%.

Michael ,

Have you ruled out this being an issue with the index db itself? SPS has a built in backup util that can be run as a test. See if it does the same thing that BE is doing.

Jeff,

Thanks for your email. The first thing I did was to run the MS SPS built-in backup utility to see if there was a problem which there isn't. It backs up fine. So there is no problem with the Search Application for SPS which I believe is JET, not SQL.
