Slow Throughput with Dell Powervault 122T and BE v9.1

Peter_Toledo

Running the following:
Dell Poweredge 2600 (Windows 2000 Server & BE v9.1 - 4691)
Dell Powervault 122T
Adaptec 39160 SCSI card

I was running 8.6 and migrated to v9.1 with a clean install off of original CD.

Previous throughput w/8.6 was over 240mb/min now throughput is avg 58mb/min w/9.1. I have upgraded the SCSI card drivers to most recent release from Adaptec site & Veritas tape device drivers per Document ID: 273853 with no improvement. Backups now take an avg of 27 hours when it used to take 6-8 w/verify.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,
Peter

Did you tried to use the manufacturers device drivers for the tapeunit ?

Hello,

There could be several causes of a slow throughput. Are you using any compresiion during the backup? If yes, what type is it: software or hardware? What are you backing up in this job? Are yoy also using the Advanced open file option? Check for errors in the Windows event logs. It seems the latest Veritas device drivers too are loaded still the problem persists.

Refer to the following technote that might help resolve the problem:

Title: Reasons why the data throughput rate can be slower than the theoretical maximum when backing up to tape media

Update on the results achieved.

In reply to both of the earlier posts.

1) Yes, I have tried Dell's latest drivers.
2) I am backing up Data shares that consist of Word and Excel files and Exchange. Yes, I am using hardware compression and the Advanced File Option. It shows that Veritas Volume Snapshot Provider is being used but that the volume specified is not snappable and the remote agent cannot be initialized. This prevents the entire share or mapped drive from being backed up.

Hopefully this helps.

Hello Peter,
- Have you tried following the steps from the Article?
- Can you try a split Job? Try a job for only Exchange without AOFO.
