Slow direct attached backup

Hi

I have almost 500gb of data to backup through my direct attached backup. The server is file and print server with windows 2003 OS. Since 2-3 weeks the backup throughput I am getting is 400MB PM for this server but over the network it is 1800-2400 MB PM for other servers. This is not the constant throughput though. Previously the throughput was 6080 MB/min n evey now and then I get this throughput. Any ideas on this?

Cheers

Hello Sandeep,

- So you mean you are getting a low Throughput on a local backup than on a Remote (over the Network) Backup?

- What data are you Backing up?

- You said you used to get better throughput before. What changes were made to the system which might have caused this? Were new Application or patches installed?

- Are you backing up to Tape or Backup to Disk Folder?

We await an Update from you.

thanks

Hi Amruta

Yes I am getting a low throughput on a local backup than a remote one.

As I said in my previous post its is a file and print server so its maily user data and their home folder. Its not small files as in case of Database.

Yes I used to get better throughput and still sometimes system backs up with more than 6000MB/Min.

I am backing up to LTO3 Tape backup.
