System Hangs when attempting to install device driver updates for 10d

I am installing an Exabyte VXA 320 PacketLoader 1U tape library/drive. The drive wasn't recognized...very new. When I attemp to install the most recent device driver update for Backup Exec 10d, the one dated 12/22/05, my server and any PC accessing shares on this server slow to a crawl. Drive mappings fall off, applications hang and the server becomes nearly impossible to shut down or restart. I have not been able to get the updater to finish because of how severely it impacts all users on the network.

I am at a loss as to how to proceed. Any help you can provide is greatly appreciated.

Hello,

Verify if the device you are using is tested in backup exec 10d:
http://support.veritas.com/docs/274348

If it is, you can reboot the server and then attempt to install the driver release http://support.veritas.com/docs/280068

Revert if the issue persists.
