Tape cleaning

yepaul

Running Backup Exec 12.0 on Windows Server 2003 R2 SP2 with stand alone HP Ultrium 1760 (LTO 4). Device drivers are Symantec version 5.1.34.0

Backup fails as tape needs cleaning, run cleaning tape and clean light clears on tape drive but stats do not reset in backup Exec, try to reset manually in device properties but does not stay. Try job again and fails requiring cleaning tape. Have tried different backup tapes with no joy. Any help on clearing counters and getting our backup to run again would be most appreciated.

tried restarting etc. but no joy. Unit was out of warranty so cheaper to back up to external discs.

I suggest to restart the backup exec services, maybe BE reconnects to your tapedrive and 'sees' that the cleaning flag is off.

Indicates a hardware failure...

Try using vendor specific tools to check the tape drives functionality. Select write test also while performing tests.

If any problem with drive, contact the vendor and get the faulty one replaced.
