Trying install sp3 says sp1 is needed (HP NAS 1500)

Searched but failed to find anything but it may be somewhere.
On an HP NAS 1500 trying to install sp3 but it says I need to install sp1 first (which I did some time ago). This is a Windows 2003 server appliance edition. I am logged in locally as administrtor.

Hello Gene,

Please try silent installation of SP3 and check the results from the link mentioned below:

How to install a Backup Exec hotfix or service pack without user intervention (Silent Installation)
http://support.veritas.com/docs/274398

Hope this helps you.

Regards

Another joke from Veritas? The bkupinst.log has exactly the same error as all other attempts, ie install sp1!

Hello,

Have you tried the silent install method as suggested earlier by Ajit as per the technote:

http://support.veritas.com/docs/274398

If not, do try it and then test the results. If the issue persists, look for errors in the Windows event logs.

Update on the same.

I refer you to my previous email "another joke". What did you think I was talking about? Nothing has worked and I have deligently tried everything suggested.

Veritas,
The first step to finding a solution is acknowledging there is a problem.
Please just have the engineers fix this issue and let us know when it has been resolved.
Sure glad I'm not on the bleeding edge of this one.....

Here are some people with the same problem:

http://forums.veritas.com/discussions/thread.jspa?threadID=52735&tstart=30

http://forums.veritas.com/discussions/thread.jspa?threadID=52745&tstart=45

http://forums.veritas.com/discussions/thread.jspa?threadID=52048&tstart=75

http://forums.veritas.com/discussions/thread.jspa?threadID=52729&tstart=120

Which means including yourself, five people have lodged "support" for issues involving applying a service pack. And I only checked the last five day's worth of forums.

I could only suggest that you're not doing anything wrong, there's obviously a common problem.

Looking forward to any solution.

I think they finally gave up on me (at least via the forums)

http://forums.veritas.com/discussions/thread.jspa?threadID=52048&start=19

We'll see how doing support via other methods works (which is odd, since this was the only way I found to GET support in the first place)

Someone finally came up with a workaround (and it wasn't Veritas/Symantec). It worked for me at least:

Many thanks. hotfix52 fixed my problem. Why have Veritas failed to pick up on this though?

Because on other posts, they are still telling people to go and pay for support...

Two different solutions fixed this for me, depending on the OS.

On my Windows 2003 servers, installing SP1, no reboot, install SP3, worked.

On my Window 2000 server, installing Hot Fix 52, no reboot, then install SP3, worked.

I have the same problem. I have installed sp2 already but sp3 wants sp1.

The solution with hotfix 52 solved the problem for me.
installed 52->reboot->installed sp3
