Unlimited Client Licence Option?

Steve_Austin_
Not applicable
Hi all,

Quick question, from investigating the various agents/options available, it seems that the licensing model employed by Symantec for Backup Exec is per client, rather than per backup server; is this correct?

If so, does anyone know if there exists an 'Unlimited' licence whereby we pay for a specified number of backup servers and then have the ability to backup an unlimited number of desktop and/or windows server environments?

If it doesn't exist, is this something that may be offered in the future?

Regards,

Steve

used to be, back in the v6 and v7 days.  But v8 went to a per server scheme and hasn't change since, and I doubt that it will be offered again (think of the revenue they would loose! Smiley Wink  )

You can backup an unlimited number of desktopOS machines as long as they are W2K or XP.  You need to install the RemoteAgent to get full backups, but it is free

Vista requires both a licensed RemoteAgent and a licensed AOFO (open file agent)  in v11, but in v12, the remote agent functinality includes AOFO.  You still need a purchased serial to install the RemoteAgent

Greetings,

Where is the feature to backup unlimited desktop OS(W2K/XP) documentated? Sysadmin, installatation guide or etc?

Thanks and Regards

I may have to backtrack here  We no longer backup workstations, if there are problems, the user just gets a new image and hopefully has any important info on a server somewhere

It's on page 888 of the Administrator's Guide for BEWS 12:

To protect the Workstation versions of the supported Windows platforms, you must install the Remote Agent on each platform; however a license is not required for computers running Windows workstation operating systems.

There's similar verbage for at least 9, 10, and 11.
