infra2
Level 3

Hello,

we want to upgrade our BE 2010 R2 to te R3 in the same machine.

OS: Windows 2008 64bits (UAC and antivirus disable for the upgrade)

Account: admin of the OS and sysadmin in the SQL 2005 server (for the upgrade).

We follow recommandations:

So we stop the SQL instance of backupexec.

The installation start correctly but rolllback at the end, the logs said:

...matter of interest, but have you tried to install the version of SQL from the BE 2010 R3 DVD manually yourself, and THEN proceeding with the upgrade?

infra2
Level 3

The actual version avec SQL express with the BCKEXEC instance is 9.0.4053, and the version in the DVD is 9.0.4035 (Backup_Exec_2010_13.0.5204_MultiPlatforms_Multilingual_DVD\BE\WinNT\Install\SQLExpress).

I must install this? (it's a downgrade i think..)

Hello,

i have launnched the install manually, and when the install propose the name instance, i select Installed instances (for upgrade...)

None of the selected features can be installed or upgraded. Setup cannot proceed since no effective change is being made to the machine. To continue, click Back and then select features to install. To exit SQL Server Setup, click Cancel.

For help, click: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink?LinkID=20476&ProdName=Microsoft+SQL+Server&ProdVer=9.00.4035.00&EvtSrc=setup.rll&EvtID=SQLSetup90&EvtType=28108

For information, when i tried upgrade R2 to R3, after the failed, the install rollback the files.

But after i observe many errors with exchange:

Final error: 0xe0001201 - For this operation, the Backup Exec Virtual File Filter (VFF) driver must be installed on the media server. The VFF driver is installed when you install any of the following Backup Exec agents or options: Exchange Agent Active Directory Recover Option VMware Virtual Infrastructure Agent Microsoft Virtual Server Agent Final error category: Resource Errors

The rollback action don't receat the folder "RAWS" in backup exec installation folder, folder who content the driver used in VFF:

VirtApi.dll

VirtFile.ini

VirtFile.sys

The file are in the root folder of backup exec.

Stop all services BE

Just recreat the folder RAWS and put the 3 files in.

Restart services
