Today I received a popup regarding a pending update for Backup Exec 2010 R3.
After running Live Update, the update reads as follows: “Backup Exec 2012 is now available! (2123.0 KB)”
I have yet to download as this seems a little strange.
I’m having a hard time believing that this is really upgrade software for 2012 – Does anyone have any information regarding this update?

...you can download BE 2012 on the link below:
https://www4.symantec.com/Vrt/offer?a_id=133703
Before upgrading, stop the BE services, and grab copies of your Data/Catalogs folders just in case something goes wrong during the upgrade.
You should also read the TN below on the upgrade process:

Thanks!

Updating from BE2010 to BE2012 is not possible with liveupdate. This is just a notification.
You will have to download BE2012 through fileconnect, and request new license files for BE2012 through licensing support. (free if you have a valid maintenance contract).
