Hi,
The following message has started coming up in the last few days, before then it was fine.
I'm not sure what directory is invalid, everything appears to be there, and the backup appears to run ok, only producing the message when I would have expected it to have completed.

Ray.

It sounds like one of the selections in the backup job has been deleted and is no longer available to be backed up. Perhaps turn your logging up to a higher level than summary and you may see the folder which is causing the problem.

Hi,
Thanks for the reply, problem solved. On investigation of the log,the problem mailbox was identified. It seems that a user had been removed from the system, but their mailbox had not. (Though it was not accessable)

Hello,

As correctly pointed out by deynub, this error can occur if a directory is specified in the backup job but is not actually present when the job runs, maybe because of deletion. To add to the previous reply, you can configure detailed summary view of the job log. This can be done from tools-options-job log, there you can choose the 3rd or 4th option.

Additionally check the following technote in order to resolve the problem:

Title:"The directory is invalid" (a000fe09 HEX or e000fe09 HEX) is reported when a backup job fails
http://support.veritas.com/docs/266179

It seems that you are backing up Exchange with the Advanced Open File option. It is not recommended to use the AOFO option while backing up databases which can be backed up using an agent. This is recommended as the AOFO can cause a corruption of the database. You can also refer to the following technote for more information on the same:

Title:What is the intended use of the Open File Option and the Advanced Open File Option?
http://support.veritas.com/docs/263784

Hope this information helps you. In case the problem persists, do write back to the forum with details. However if we do not receive your update within two business days, this post would be marked ‘assumed answered’ and would be moved to ‘answered questions’ pool.

Regards.
