remote backup for servers in the other domain

Hi...there are two domains( NT4, Win2K domain). Veritas 8.5 in NT4 PDC server, Veritas 9.0 at Win2K domain controller.

We would like to have Veritas 9.0 at Win2K server to remote backup the E: (data) drive under NT4 PDC.

Question:
1) Will it cause any problem to install the 9.0's remote agent in NT4 server which has 8.5 installed.
2) Will it has any problem to have the backup cross two domains?

Thanks in advance,

Fshguo

1) Well the licenses are backward compatible, so the 8.5 copy can use a 9.0 license, but I'm not sure if this includes the actual software working. If you try installing the 9.0 agent on the NT server and see what happens, if the worst comes to the worst, you can always uninstall it and re-install the 8.5 version.

I suspect that unless you can get the two servers up to the same level you may have problems, not with any of your remote backups from the NT4 server, but with backups of itself, as I believe for some reason it still uses the remote agent to backup local information, though that might well only be with the more recent versions.

2) Ameet wrote a very good description of backing up across networks in this post http://forums.veritas.com/discussions/thread.jspa?threadID=45359&tstart=0

Hi there!

It might cause problems if you try to install a remote agent on a existing media server!

Well you could try uninstalling that 8.5 Version of BEWS and then install the remote agent.

Then you would just need to create an account which exists in both the domains with the same credentials or you could possibly try to configure a trust relationship between the two domains.
Look into the admin guide for more informatiom:
From page 45:
===========================
If You Are Backing Up Servers in More Than One Domain:
1. Establish a One Way Trust Relationship between the Host Domain (the domain in
which the media server resides) and the Target Domains (the domains that are to be
backed up):
a. In the Host Domain, permit the Target Domains to trust the Host Domain.
b. In each Target Domain, trust the Host Domain.
2. In each Target Domain, add the Host Domain’s name of an existing or new Service
Account (for example, Administrator) in the local Administrators group.
