DMP on Windows 2003 exterprise ed.

Hi,

I have been trying to determine whether the DMP option for storage foundation 5.0 is still required on a windows 2003 enterprise edition (64 bit) server?

I have had conflicting information from people at work. It was required on previous windows 2000 server biulds with SF 4, as we have a multipathed/connected SAN environment here. Windows was seeing the same san disk twice or more until the DMP option was used.

Does Windows 2003 have multipathing support biult in or is the DMP option for SF 5 still required (or is it simply to give greater control over the path management)?

Thanks,

- Ian.

It depends....

I guess if you have multiple paths to a SAN, you have it for a  reason and you also wants to be able to manage them and overview them. If that is the case, then yes, you'll need  to install DMP or some other tool from the SAN provider. I would recommend you to choose DSM DMP though, it performs better and it uses microsofts mpio.sys.
