Happy New Year and all the best for 2009.

Now that the holidays are out of the way, welcome back  to what will no doubt be a roller coaster year as if 2008 wasn't enough for us all.

Anyway - onto the topic of this post.

We are pleased to announce that during the holiday period , we formally released Enterprise Vault 8.0 (EV 8.0) and it is now available for download via the FileConnect portal ; you can also order a media kit from there as well.

So your first task is to login into the portal and download the software and documentation. Then you can start to think about the planning, testing and preparation for your upgrade to version EV 8.0 from your existing EV 2007 environment. We’ll be posting more information on this site in the coming weeks to explain a little bit more about the new features and functionality of EV 8.0, but here's the main headlines.

Reduced Storage Costs driven by improved sharing

  • Share items between Servers, Vault Stores & Partitions

  • SIS granularity down to file attachments in messages

  • Support for 3rd Party block level de-duplication such as NetApp FAS De-Dupe or Data Domain

  • Support SIS (Single Instance Storage) when using WORM devices

Improvements to operations & management

  • Auto-Partition Rollover

  • Age & Quota Policy now supported

  • Common Tasks Dashboard for Admin Console

  • Simplified Backup Process (a new Backup Mode)

  • Simplified Configuration using Getting Started Wizard

User Interface Improvements

  • New Vault Cache Mode (major refresh of what used to be  Offline Vault)

  • Dynamic Shortcuts - Archive Explorer now reflects shortcut movements

  • New Advanced Search UI

New UI & Guided Review process for Discovery & Compliance Accelerator

  • New richer lightweight client

  • Guided Review to quickly filter search results

  • New Optional Analysis phase

  • Conversational view of email threads

  • Search within Search

  • Aims to reduce time & cost of legal discovery

Our documentation has also been refreshed and hopefully you'll find it easier to navigate through the various documents. You'll find the documentation within the EV 8.0 package that you download from FileConnect or the media kit if you order one.

Also - the new functionality detailed in our updated Enterprise Vault 8.0 Performance Guide provides as much detail about performance as we could test before release. For all the major components of Enterprise Vault 8.0, there is no difference in performance from previous versions of Enterprise Vault. The new storage model introduced in Enterprise Vault 8.0 offers considerable scope for savings in storage but the performance guide is essential reading if you are planning to upgrade to EV 8.0.

Happy New Year to you all!
